Through the head of the founder the label was invented on the couch, finally finding a name for it, watching the Discovery Channel, in 2001, about two individuals, living on an Caribbean island in exile, fled the american law, now living as two wealthy kings running their successful businesses, but not being able to leave the island due to risking being caught by the same law. The reporter called it a sublime exile. No sympaties, but a great name, the founder wanted to translate and mirror the meaning of the two words to his music business, meaning a great escape for both artist and label. Not following the establishment but doing ‘your thing’ by heart and love and not necessarily for the fame and money. A true and everlasting rock’n’roll prophecy !
The founder had been working in the industry throughout Scandinavia for decades and left his well payed safe job as the Scandinavian Label Manager for the worlds biggest independent (at that time), the UK record label Mute Records, in 2001. He wanted to follow his old dream of having his own business and teamed up with a recording studio in the heart of Copenhagen and signed three critically acclaimed debut albums and officially started the label on March 5th in 2002.
Sublime Exile Recordings is a classic independent record label. We simply want to work with the best and break the most exciting new artists and music within the rock/pop genre.
In 2002 Sublime Exile Recordings released three debut albums to much critical acclaim. Lasse de Flon, a Swede now living in Denmark, since 1999, who has been working in the industry for decades, started the label. He’s had several leading roles and started the MNW Records Group operation in Oslo in 1994. After five successful years, with yearly turnovers way over expectation, exploiting and manage the label he left Norway in 1999 for Copenhagen and worked as the Scandinavian Label Manager for MUTE Records at Playground Music in Sweden, where he was among the ten handpicked people starting that label.
Sublime Exile’s first release with Kira and the kindred spirits received massive attention and the media proclaimed Kira as the biggest natural talent coming out on the Danish rock scene in decades.
Our second release with Pleasure Machine includes prominent guests appearances by some of the best on the Danish independent rock scene, such as Sune Wagner and Sharin Foo from The Raveonettes, Emil Jørgensen from Swan Lee, Laust Sonne from D.A.D among many others including the Swedish piano player Jesper Nordenström (he’s also laid tunes to Kira’s album). The release caught much attention and the media compared Pleasure Machine to bands like The Cure, Kinks and Neil Young.
Our third release with Racing Ape received ‘The 2002 Talent Award’ by the Danish national broadcasting radio at the P3 Gold Awards.
In 2006 we’ve digitally released the Australian band The Fakes and their debut EP ‘Storm in a tea cup’ and several forthcoming releases are all on our planning desks for release in 2006/2007.
Stay tuned !
